The Pretty One, by Cheryl Klam
Even though I pretty much just started reading this, I am LOVING The Pretty One! Its so cute and funny, and it made me laugh when I wasn’t in the best mood. I can’t believe I haven’t read this sooner, since it was published in 2008, but now that I’m reading it, I guess I’m glad that I found a book like this. The Pretty One is told from Megan’s perspective. She is funny, quirky, and has a mind of her own. She is also the youngest in her family. Her older sister, Lucy is beautiful, smart, and always gets the attention. Megan has always been jealous, but how can she get the attention when no one notices her? I just finished reading the part where Megan gets back from ten months of surgery and resting and is now back at school. Her transformation changes her life: guys start to notice her, Simon, her best friend is acting weird, and Drew, her long-time crush even takes an interest in her. Is it because she looks.. beautiful? What happened to the ugly and chubby girl ten months before? Being the Pretty One seems nice and I’m excited to read more about Megan’s life being the Pretty One, instead of her sister, Lucy who is always taking the spotlight.

“Megan?” he mouths, as if he’s not quite sure.
I’m so happy to see him I break through the crowd and run to him, nearly knocking him over as I throw my arms around his neck. He laughs nervously, and jams his hands in his pockets as he takes a step back.
“I’m here!” I announce, just in case he hadn’t noticed.
“I see,” he says, still staring at me.
“I look weird, don’t I?” I whisper.
“Not weird,” he says. “Just different. Holy crap.”
“Exactly,” I saw with a nod and a smile. Standing before him, being so close to him, makes me feel one hundred percent better.
Right now, I would give The Pretty One Rating:

stars!
