SYNOPSIS – (From Goodreads)
On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.
A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.
THOUGHTS
A Beautiful Dark was pretty good. I didn’t expect much from this supernatural debut novel, but I was glad that I chose to read it. Although the synopsis didn’t say much about what the book is really about, I think it’s safe to say that this novel is about angels, without the demons.
I have mixed feelings about Skye. I thought she was very indecisive, she had feelings for both of the main guys in the story. She kept talking about how she couldn’t stop thinking about Asher and Devin, and she didn’t know what to do. I would have stopped reading at that point, but the plot seemed really interesting. (And yes, there is a love triangle in the story.) Other than that, Skye’s personality is something that everyone will enjoy. She’s stronger than the usual heroines in the story, and she didn’t have much to complain about. (Except about Asher and Devin, but that’s a different story.)
I really liked the over all story line in A Beautiful Dark. It’s much more different than other stories about angels. Jocelyn Davies was very creative with her idea of “The Order” and “The Rebellion, and of course the powers. There was a good amount of information on this topic, but I would have liked for Davies to explain more of these things. I felt that the ending was rushed, so I hope that I will learn more about them in the next book of the series.
Overall, A Beautiful Dark wasn’t one of my favorites, but I like it enough to wait for the next book to come out. If you’re into angels, supernatural and paranormal novels, A Beautiful Dark is a book you should check out! But if you’re not into love triangles, I suggest that you pass on this book. (I know a lot of YA fans are losing interest on love triangles these days.) A big chunk of the novel is focused on Skye’s love interest.

Great review. The cover for this book is beautiful, even though like you said, the summary doesn’t really tell you anything about this book. And I HATE love triangles! There is WAY too many of those going on lately! Why can’t there be ONE book where the main characters just KNOW who they like and love, and STAY with them? Sigh. It’s too much to ask for. Great review, once again!
