Beastly, By Alex Flinn
Beastly, by Alex Flinn is about sixteen-year-old Kevin Kingsbury has it all; the looks, the money, and of course, the popularity. He practically rules Tuttle High School. Although, Kevin has always been a bully. He’s always known that he was better looking than the other guys, so he would just love to make fun of other people. One day, along comes Kendra, a girl who looks like a witch. She has green hair and wears all black. Kendra knows that Kevin is a mean guy, so she puts a spell on him. A spell that turns Kevin into his true form: a beast. A creature with lots of hair, fangs, and claws. Kevin is devastated when he finds out what he really is. His father even sends him to a castle! Kevin becomes lonely with just his maid, his tutor, and his greenhouse filled with roses. One night, a burglar tries to break into Kevin’s castle. He tries every excuse to escape from Kevin, but nothing seems to persuade him. Not until the burglar offers his daughter: Lindy, a girl with no friends who used to go to school with Kevin at Tuttle. Kevin agrees to take the burglar’s daughter and let the burglar pass. Kevin is excited to meet Lindy because this is his last shot to become human again. What will happen to Kevin? Will he ever become human again? Or will he stay a beast forever?
My opinion: I think Beastly was such a good book! It is a modern fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast, except on the Beasts’ side. I think it was nice to read another character’s point of view from their side of the story, because it was more exciting not knowing what will happen next. I recommend this to all readers who love reading fantasy, fiction, and mystery. I am sure that you will love reading Beastly just as much as I did!
