Bliss, By Lauren Myracle

BlissBliss, a chilling tale by Lauren Myracle, is about fourteen-year-old Bliss “Inthemorningdew” who has been dropped off at her grandmother’s house after her parents, who are hippies, go to Canada to live on a commune. Bliss then has her lifestyle changed: she uses luxury bath items, wears preppy clothes, and even goes to the exclusive Crestview Academy. You may think that this story is about Bliss learning how to get to know her grandmother, or learns how to live a new life. This story is Lauren Myracle’s first horror novel: After settling to her new school, Crestview Academy, Bliss learns that the school is haunted. Bliss hears voices inside her head of a girl, named Lilliana, who not only went to Crestview, but died there. Lilliana contacts Bliss, telling her things that don’t make sense at all. Bliss meets a girl who thinks that she can bring Lilliana back to life, and she is certain that Bliss is the only one that can help her. Bliss is dragged into a horror she never thought of fearing.

My opinion on the book: I thought Bliss was a good book to read. I finished it faster than I thought, even though it was a long book (about 400 pages). I was kind of disappointed of the story itself. I thought the book would be more exciting, with lots of horror. Sure, it was chilling, but after I read a few reviews, they said that there would be lots horror. But when I read the book, I thought, “Where is the horror?” I couldn’t find it anywhere! This book surprised me when I got near the end: it made me sad, but I was satisfied with how the book ended. I recommend Bliss to all Lauren Myracle fans, and those who want a mild horror story.
