SYNOPSIS – (From Goodreads)
Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire… fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil… until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.
Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don’t exist), and they’re shocked she survived. They’re even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl’s family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King’s feast — as the entrees.
The only problem? Pearl’s starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she’s definitely dead if she lets down her family. What’s a sunlight-loving vamp to do?
THOUGHTS
As I mentioned on Goodreads, Drink, Slay, Love was so much better than I expected. I’ve taken a break from all the YA vampire novels out there because I felt that I’ve read too many of them. (The Twilight Saga really changed me!)
After hearing about Drink, Slay, Love, I was eager to read Pearl’s story. The cover is really eye catching, too! But don’t get me wrong with the synopsis. A vampire getting stabbed by a unicorn? That is not a typical vampire story. It’s different from the typical vampire stories out there and I’m sure this is a great twist that all vampire fans will like reading.
Pearl’s experience in high school was really exciting. Her new double life caused her to make decisions that she hasn’t made before. She was very naive to human life, even though it seemed like she was doing just fine. She also experiences new emotions that she hasn’t felt before; like sympathy, regret, and even love.
One of Pearl’s love interests was Jadrien, who seemed sexy and exciting at first, but after reading about Evan, I prefer Evan hands down!
Finally, Drink, Slay, Love is filled with twists and turns that will have you falling for vampires (and even unicorns) all over again!

Special thanks to Alyson over at Kid Lit Frenzy for lending me Drink, Slay, Love!

Ohh, I’ve been seeing this on blogs A LOT lately, but yours is the first review I’ve read of it!
It seems really different and the cover is very eye-catching, like you said.
I have also tried to stay away from YA vamp books lately, because Twilight DID change me (not for the better) and my feelings on most vampire books, since it seems like ALL of the YA vampire books are just trying to copy the Twilight storyline.
Anyway…
Thank you for the great review as always, and I look forward to reading this one!
