AUTHOR BIO:
Heidi R. Kling likes stories, people and blue things, not necessarily in
that order. She earned her MFA in Writing for Children from The New School.
She lives with her family in Northern California just over the coastal
mountains from the sea.
INTERVIEW:
Ashlyn Rae: What was SEA based/inspired on, and why?
Heidi: SEA was inspired by the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia and my husband’s volunteer work at an orphanage there. A longer version is on my website: http://www.heidirkling.com.
Ashlyn Rae: What was your favorite part when writing SEA?
Heidi: I enjoyed it all! I loved coming up with characters and plot and names. I loved it when loose threads would come together.
Ashlyn Rae: What was the hardest part when writing SEA?
Heidi: Finding time to do it all.
Ashlyn Rae: How did you come up with the title, SEA?
Heidi: SEA is the main character Sienna’s old nickname. Before her mom disappeared in a small plane over the Indian ocean, she loved to surf and loved the ocean.
Ashlyn Rae: Will this novel become a series? (Or any other books based on SEA?)
Heidi: I’m not planning on it now, but if there is enough demand I could think of a way to revisit these characters and this world.
Ashlyn Rae: Is there any connection between you and the main character, Sienna?
Heidi: Sienna and I are a lot alike in certain ways. But she is fictional.
Ashlyn Rae:How hard was it while trying to come up with characters?
Heidi: Characters are easy for me! I love coming up with characters.
Ashlyn Rae: If you can explain your book in three words, what would it be?
Heidi: Hope after disaster
Ashlyn Rae: What would you tell your readers to expect in SEA?
Heidi: Romance, adventure, love, hope, grief…perhaps a new perspective of our world and the role we play as human beings. ❖
*SEA comes out today! Be sure to grab your very own copy! (I know I will be!)*
