Lock and Key By, Sarah Dessen, is about teenager Ruby who is dealing with living alone. Her mother has “ran away” a while back and now she is left alone. Ruby has to tell lies to the landlords that own the house she is living in that her mother is “sleeping” or “out to get groceries.” The landlords soon find out that Ruby’s mother is no longer living in the house. The landlords then send Ruby to her sister’s house, Cora, Ruby’s older sister who she hasn’t seen in ten years. Cora lives in a big house, with her husband, Jamie. Ruby now has to go to a private school, wear new and expensive clothes, and deal with forming a relationship with her long lost sister.
My opinion on the book: This is the first book I read by Sarah Dessen. It took me longer to finish than other books, but I loved reading it. Lock and Key is easy to understand and I loved how well detailed the story is. I recommend this to all Sarah Dessen fans, and those who love a good summer read.
