SYNOPSIS - (From Goodreads)
Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she’ll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters’ laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything- including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?
THOUGHTS
To be honest, I expected a lot from Nightshade. But a little part of me also knew what would happen in the end. I was disappointed yet okay with the decision that Calla made. I hope that makes sense..
At first, I was all for Ren. He and Calla just seemed so great together in the beginning. He’s strong, protective, and a leader. Everything what an alpha seems to have. But I was quite disappointed when I read about him being forceful, and a little too jealous about Calla and Shay’s relationship. I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to say that a love triangle takes place in Nightshade. When I was rooting for Ren, I started to get a antsy not just with Shay, but with Calla too. I didn’t think an alpha like Calla would be so disloyal to her pack and her future mate, Ren. I could see that Calla was having a hard time with deciding who she really loves. But hey, that’s the price you pay, right? In the end, the outcome of Calla and Shay’s and Calla and Ren’s relationship was something that I saw coming.
On the other hand, Nightshade was different and new from the usual werewolf books. I like the whole aspect of Keepers, Guardians, and Searchers. It’s unique and fresh! Something I look forward to reading more of. Even though I give this book three and a half stars, I will definitely read Wolfsbane in the future! If you’re a fan of werewolves and wolves in general, I definitely recommend reading Nightshade!

I felt the exact same way after reading this! But, unlike you, I didn’t like Ren at all!
I hated the fact that he was forceful with Calla, and I didn’t like Calla much, either. I liked Shay, but he wasn’t much of a hero to tell you the truth. Hopefully the next book is better, and even though I didn’t like this one much, the covers are really beautiful, and look great on my shelf, haha.
