Spells, by Aprilynne Pike

Check out my review on Wings! (Which was posted almost over a year ago!)

SYNOPSIS

After finding out that Laurel is a faerie only a few months ago, summer is finally here and Laurel is ready to forget about her problems with school and Barnes, the not-so-human-villain who tried to kill Laurel, David and Tamani for Laurel’s land. Unfortunately, Laurel has to return to Avalon, her first home, to continue her studies of her race. Though while trying to do more studying, Laurel is trying to keep her relationship in place with her boyfriend, David and close friend, Tamani. How can Laurel stay friends with Tamani even though he loves Laurel while she is with David? Is Laurel making the right choice? Especially when the answer is right in front of her? Laurel is drawn into more danger and drama in Spells.

MY OPINION

Personally, I thought Spells would be way better than Wings. But with my high expectations, I was very disappointed. Spells was very slow. I thought it would catch on faster, maybe with a little more action during the middle of the book, but it didn’t. What I did like about the book was that it was very detailed. I felt like I was in the book with Laurel and the characters of Spells. Even though I didn’t enjoy reading Spells, I will definitely read the third book when it comes out. If you are a Wings fan, you should give Spells a try but with low expectations. Don’t expect anything “surprising” or something “unexpected” because if you do, you may end up disappointed like me. If you do consider reading Spells, it is a book you should read with free time and nothing else to do.
