SYNOPSIS – (From Goodreads)
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one except the thing inside her.
When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch.
Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she’s special, says she’s one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits. Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.
Griffin’s investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.
But The Machinist wants to tear Griff’s little company of strays apart, and it isn’t long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she’s on, even if it seems no one believes her.
THOUGHTS
Despite all of the people who didn’t like reading The Girl in the Steel Corset, I seriously loved this book. Kady Cross just made me like steampunk even more than I already have!
There were tons of things I enjoyed while reading The Girl in the Steel Corset! Including reading about each of the character’s abilities, the super cool Organites, hot corsets, and unrequited love! Okay, fine, maybe I didn’t really enjoy reading about the unrequited love! That was probably the one thing I was really disappointed with! Don’t get me wrong, I loved reading the romance parts that Kady Cross included, but that subplot didn’t end the way I expected it to!
Anyways, the main character, Finley Jayne, was amazing. The fact that she is a super strong character (I mean that literally and figuratively!) makes me love reading about her! I would have loved to read more about how and why she was battling with two “sides” of her, so hopefully Cross writes about that in her next book! Secondly, next to Finley, Emily is also one of my favorite characters in the book. She’s so smart! I wish her inventions were real. I hope this book becomes a movie or a show someday, I’d love to listen to her Irish accent! (So I don’t have to listen to my own horrible attempt) Also, Griffin seemed to remind me of Professor X in X-Men. He’s intelligent and a leader! (Okay, maybe it doesn’t seem that way to you, but that was just the vibe I kept getting when I was reading it, okay? HAHA) It took me a while to warm up to Sam.. Maybe it’s because I loved Finley so much, but Sam is usually the type of character I usually like reading about! Finally, I’d like to know more about what happens with Jasper in the end. He was also a nice character to read about; I like the whole American-cowboy persona!
I am really looking forward to reading more of Cross’ Steampunk Chronicles! I do hope she includes more of Finley and Griffin next time!

I have this book but haven’t heard much about it. I love the cover though! Haha, I sound just like my mother–only buying books because the cover is pretty! But it DOES sound very interesting, and if you liked it, I trust your opinion of it.
