The Luxe, is a book and series by Anna Godbersen that takes place in 1899 where families live in the high society in Manhattan, New York. Elizabeth and Diana Holland rule the social scene, until they find out that they are losing their inheritance. Elizabeth, the eldest of the Holland family, must now marry Henry Schoonmaker to keep their fortune. Henry Schoonmaker and Elizabeth Holland don’t like each other; they each have secret loves of their own. Now it is Elizabeth who has the family’s fate, and fortune in her hands. Will she deny this all to escape with the one she truly loves? It is not until her backstabbing best friend, Penelope Hayes along with Elizabeth’s maid, Lina Broud threaten the future of the Holland family.
My opinion: I read The Luxe about a year ago and I have to say that I really enjoyed reading it. It was different reading about girls my age back in the late 1800s, but it was really exciting to read. At first, I didn’t think I would like reading about something that took place in 1899. As I read more, I couldn’t seem to stop. I remember finishing the book quickly, and I couldn’t wait to read the next book. I am now waiting for the fourth book of the series, which I can’t wait to read either. I think The Luxe Series is similar to The It Girl, Gossip Girl, and The Pretty Little Liars series, but takes place in an earlier time. You will definitely enjoy reading this if you’ve read these other series.
