Wintergirls By Laurie Halse Anderson is about teenager, Lia, who has an eating disorder. Before her best friend, Cassie, died of lack of energy, they had a contest to see who can be the skinniest. Now that Cassie is dead, Cassie seems to be haunting Lia: telling her to stop forcing herself to be skinny, to eat more. Lia won’t listen. Laurie Halse Anderson writes about Lia and her journeys through her eating disorders, and describes how it is to lose a friend, and to get through teenage problems in life.
My opinion on the book: I really enjoyed reading Wintergirls. I think that the story was very well written and detailed. Wintergirls shows how far girls go to become “skinny.” Wintergirls is an amazing and horrifyingly true book by Laurie Halse Anderson.
